Islamic Finance Project (IFP)

In 1995, the Islamic Finance Project (IFP) was founded by the Harvard University Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES). In late 2003, IFP became a part of the Islamic Legal Studies Program (ILSP) at Harvard Law School. As the only Ivy League project of its kind, IFP aims to study the field of Islamic finance from legal perspectives by analyzing contemporary scholarship, encouraging collaboration among scholars within and outside of the Muslim world, and increasing the interaction between theory and practice in the Islamic finance industry. Program Overview

Harvard Law School‘s Islamic Legal Studies Program (ILSP), established in 1991, is a research program that seeks to advance knowledge and understanding of Islamic law. As stated in its statement of objectives (incorporated into the terms of its major grants), the Program is dedicated to achieving excellence in the study of Islamic law through objective and comparative methods. It aims to foster an atmosphere of open inquiry that embraces many perspectives: Muslim and non-Muslim, scholar and practitioner, contemporary and classical, Sunni and Shi’i, law and religion. Islamic finance, an opportunity for entrepreneurs

The debate on Islamic finance does not stop raising questions. Its rise brought about a lot of questions about its ability to complete and calm the ardor of some traditional financial practices or also its contribution to the Tunisian economy and its ability to meet the expectations of different economic actors. It is within this framework that JCI Tunis organized a meeting on this issue. It sought to explain the concept of Islamic finance and share knowledge to enrich the country’s banking system. (suite…)
