TUNIS – Marie-Alexandra Veilleux, Head of Tunisia’s office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), spoke before Canadian businessmen and their Tunisian counterparts of the investment opportunities in Tunisia, namely in agri-business, ICT, natural resources and energy.
During a Tunisian-Canadian Business Forum held recently in Montreal, in the presence of more than 170 entrepreneurs from both countries, Veilleux reiterated EBRD’s readiness to back up private investments in Tunisia.
Canada represents Tunisia in the Bank’s Board of Directors.
She reminded of the strong ties between the EBRD and Canada, one of the Bank’s major shareholders and suppliers of direct foreign investment in the region where it intervenes.
In Tunisia, the EBRD had funded in 2013 a Canadian company of natural resources, Serinus Energy.
« One of the mandates of the EBRD is to promote member states, raise investors’ awareness and back up foreign direct investment, » Veilleux pointed out.
The Tunisian-Canadian Business Forum held as part of the Year of Canada in Tunisia (2014) discussed challenges and opportunities in agri-business, ICT and education.
